Turning Over A New Leaf . . .

Hopefully, it stays turned over!  Well, I had to give myself an attitude adjustment.  I haven’t been happy and a lot of why I’m miserable, I can’t really change so I was hoping for a distraction and hopefully some feel good hormones.  I had to go back to the gym.  For more than just weight loss.  I also needed the endorphins to just make me feel better and I needed to do something with myself to try to move out of the funk and get off the couch and stop eating!!  So far so good!!  I started off the week at 220.0 pounds even.  Gulp.  As of this morning, I’m showing a loss already so I’m happy with that.  Part of the boost that I needed.  I decided Monday was the start day for the Y.

On Monday, I emailed a friend who had done a Tuesday morning spin class challenge over the winter.   I wanted to see how it went and if she was still going to the Y.  See if I can find some peeps to see while I was there!  She loved the challenge and said that it got her started on working out in the morning before work.  That means arriving at the gym at 6am to slug out 30 – 40 minutes and then race home to shower and get ready for work.  GULP!!!  The more she talked about it, the more I figured I could give it a try.  Not every day but maybe a couple days a week.  How awesome would it be to come home at the end of a work day knowing you’d already worked out!  And boosted your metabolism early in the morning too.  So here’s how my week went down so far . . .

Monday – Y in the evening, 30 minutes on the treadmill – 2.81 km.
Tuesday – Y at 6am!!  40 minutes on the treadmill – 3.85 km
Wednesday – Walked partway home by not taking my transfer bus – 19:53 –1.89 km, thanks to Runmeter app.
Also Wednesday – Y at 6:45 pm for Barbell Blast class – my favorite class at the gym.  45 minutes and I had strength-trained my whole body.  I ache a little.  It’s good pain.
Thursday – Y at 6am!! 35 minutes on the treadmill – 3.26 km (got there 5 minutes late and I absolutely have to be gone at 6:40am in order to get to work on time).
Friday – ??? maybe nothing actually, I have Barbell Blast Saturday morning.

I'd say that 3 hours of activity over the last 4 days is about a billion times better than I was doing. Getting there for 6am actually wasn’t bad and I did have much more energy throughout the day.  I’m going to try to do this Tuesdays & Thursdays consistently and if it’s going well, maybe I will add Monday too.  I won’t do Wednesday’s because I love the Barbell class in the evening and I probably won’t do Fridays because I don’t want to be completely bagged every Friday night.

My eating and tracking is going well too.  I find that if I’m working out, the desire to eat really bad for me foods just isn’t there.  It’s like I have the mentality that I just worked really hard at the gym so do I want to blow that whole thing on a bag of chips??  Not really.  Trying to get in more veggies.  My favorite this week has been celery and laughing cow cream cheese of any flavor.  I used to love celery and Cheez Whiz as a kid and this really isn’t far from it.  I’ve packed a lunch every day too. Mostly a frozen entrée and then I add fruits, veggies, fiber one bars, and greek yogurt to the mix.  I don’t necessarily like to bring a frozen entrée every day but it gets me into the habit of preparing things the night before.  Hopefully in the next couple of weeks as I settle into a routine, I will just be bringing the convenience lunches on Tuesdays & Thursdays when I have less time in the morning.  I haven’t used any weekly points yet and I haven’t used my activity points.  I wanted to only use them if I was feeling particularly hungry and not just eat because I have them.  Good attitude right?  Besides, there will be weeks where I consume every single one, hello pms, I’m talking to you.

And onto my time wastage . . .
Amazing Race – Love Mark & Bopper, can’t stand Rachel & Brendan, I’m on the fence about the border patrol guys, Art & JJ??  Can’t remember but anyway, they are kind of fun when they are racing and they do really well but as soon as the producers interview the darker haired one, his arrogance becomes a little too much and I find myself wanting to take him down a peg.  Yes, you’re doing well, be thankful but be humble.  One hard task and you could be last.
Biggest Loser – I keep hearing about this supposed “walkoff” but I so far it hasn’t happened on the show and if someone really did get disqualified, I hope it’s Conda.  So far she’s been a bully and her brother is giving her a free ride.
Survivor – Ahahahaha!  I feel bad for laughing but come on!!  He deserved to be out!!  Colton meet Karma, Karma meet Colton.  Karma 1, Colton  -$1million. J  And I’m really glad he didn’t give Alicia the immunity idol.  I also hope they took his souvenir because I thought that Survivor kept those and auctioned them off for charity.

The Walking Dead – What the hooded f*ck!!!  I’m not a reader of the comics so I’ve learned a little about who the hooded person is from different comments on show recaps.  But man, I let out a huge gasp when that happened.  I couldn’t believe when they drove off leaving Andrea there.  I know they thought a walker got her but they didn’t even give her a second to get up!!  I will be waiting eagerly for season three to begin in the fall but in the meantime, I can be thankful for the return of Mad Men to fill the slot.

So that's it for now . . . I'm about to try a new recipe.  My favorite Smart Ones WW meal right now is the Sante Fe Rice & Beans and I was hoping to find a recipe that was close.  I made something pretty close the other day but I think it could be better.  Found a recipe that had rave reviews so I'm giving it a try, I'll post the link if it works out well!!

Hope everyone is having a good week!  If not, feel free to bitch & complain because I do!!

    1. Thanks! If you have Netflix, that's where I watched season one. In the first 20 minutes, I didn't think I was going to be able to watch it, but then I got hooked!

  3. Yes! If you're like me and you're not a usual fan of the sometimes gruesome, give the first couple episodes a chance. Hehe - I started it twice.

  4. Nice work girl!! I am so proud of you!

Amazing Race - I too LOVE Mark and Bopper - the boarder patrol guys are growing on me. The one girl who always wears sparkly green needs off the show STAT. I can not handle how whiny she is. Yuck.

Oh man - Conda needs to get over herself. She's so annoying. Ugh. Kim looked amazing in her 2 piece. I was like "work it sister!"

Um - I can not WAIT for next season of Walking Dead. It's going to be LEGIT for sure!

  5. Great job Michelle! What a great week for you!! I've been keeping a food journal and tracking that way, but am taking a break from actual tracking pts for now. (a post about this today)

Walking Dead was awesome. April 1st the Killing is back. I can't wait!! Have you been watching that one?

    Keep up the awesomeness!

  6. I came back to comment on your post to make sure you would see it! Haha ;) You know it's funny because I was hyper thyroid, now I'm hypo, and I get hives but never had them checked out because they keep coming and going...weird. You really might want to check out the book even if it scares you. He talks about white patches of skin, hives, and MUCH more. It really might be part of what is plaging you! I'm not trying to pressure you or anything, but after your comment I just had to mention it :-)
